Halloween was great this year. We were at a new house with a great neighborhood and to top it off we had great weather! The social gal that I am, I had a party for a few neighbors and friends. Everyone brought a dish and we had a great dinner before everyone hit the streets for some candy. It was such a great night and I think the weather helped in a big way. The boys have made such great friends here, and we are very lucky to have found such a great neighborhood.

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted. We moved, had a death in the family, and just a busy fall. I have promised myself and others that I will now post at least once a month. Here is hoping I keep up with my promise. So I guess I will start with Halloween and go on from there.

May 24th Spring Training

His first trophy!! He was soo excited to show us.

Kyle just finished his spring training with the Grayslake Park District. It was a great program that taught the kids the basics of baseball. He was able to run the bases, bat, field, and learn all the positions. Since Kevin was on a team Kyle loved having his own team and day for baseball. I have to say that Kyle has one heck of an arm. I have played catch with him and you for sure need to have a glove on. For a 4 year old he can really get some power behind the ball.

Here is my baby graduating from preschool. Gloryland Preschool had their graduation on Thursday and it was very nice. The kids sang a couple songs and then they walked across the bridge to get their diplomas. Kyle's favrorite part was the ice cream at the end. He is now onto 4 year old preschool in the fall. He is such a little angel at school, which is good since that is not always the case at home. Ha! Ha!

Baseball Has Begun

Here are the Rockies!

Kevin is in his first year of coach pitch baseball. Since he is still six, he is one of the younger ones on the team but you wouldn't know it. His hand eye coordination is great! He has been hitting great and will hit the first or second pitch everytime. Their team is the Rockies and the kids are learning a lot from their coaches. I only wish the weather was a little warmer. A couple of nights with the wind blowing have been a little chilly. I guess that is something I will have to get used too. Kyle is also playing baseball and some pictures will be coming soon.

Mom's Tea

At Kyle's Preschool they had a Mother's Day tea this past week. Kyle looked very handsome and we had cake, apple juice, and cookies. The kids made the cutest flower pots and decorated them with their fingerprints. Days like this are very special and I look forward to them every year.

One, Two, Three, Jump!!!

It has been a while since I posted something, which means I have been very busy. :) Anyway, I thought I would share a couple of pictures from our vacation. We went to Florida with my mom and our friends the Irwins. The kids had a ton of fun swimming in the pool, golfing, and going to the Magic Kingdom. Yes, we went for a day and the kids had fun. The biggest thrill was to see buzz lightyear. He is one of Kyle's favorite characters and he was so excited to see him in person. As far as the travel goes, Kyle and Kevin loved flying and they both wanted to sit by the window on both trips which was an issue, I guess it's good our kids know the phrase taking turns. Family vacations are great! I loved being together and also having some down time to lay by the pool and enjoy the sun.

Field Museum

Another Sunday in the city. The Field Museum is free the month of February so we decided to take advantage and headed down after church. It was a beautiful day out so we figured the museum would be busy but it wasn't when we first got there. The kids loved all the dinosaurs. I have to say that they were quite large and amazing. One exhibit had the whole start of America from the beginning at it was very interesting to see all the Native American art and headdresses. Of course the boys loved the spear heads. We told Kevin he could sleep on a straw mat instead of his bed, but he decided his bed would be just fine. They have a kids area where the kids can explore everything hands on. They can look at fossils, pick corn, and play instruments. All in all the museum was a success. It was very busy when we left so we made the right choice to go early.

Here is a picture of Bert, Rob and John. Now those of you readers who know us, know that these are a couple of the usual suspects (friends) that we hang out with. Now between these two guys they have four children, which are so sweet and well behaved (even though when we are together my kids don't behave which is embarassing) so I have to assume that I can credit their lovely wives Denise and Karla for that. We all got together Saturday night and had a great time. My mom taught us a new dice game to play and of course we played cards. My mom also got a good dose of Bert's let's say colorful language. Now we are all going on vacation together in about 7 weeks, so at least she knows a little about what to expect. One of the funniest times during the night was when the Michigan State basketball game was on, Bert was using some colorful language, and of course my mom was watching the game. Denise was a little concerned about what Bert was saying. Bert then says, "She has tuned me out, don't worry, all we have to have is a loop tape of Michigan State games and she won't even know I was on vacation." We of course all laughed including my mom. All joking aside these couples are very dear friends, and I can't wait for vacation!!!

Weekend in Michigan

We went to Michigan this past weekend and of course we packed a lot into a short weekend. First, we saw Grammie, and the kids spent some time with her making their usual cookies. Friday we took our friends Bob and Lisa out for a much needed break, Saturday we saw the LaHaie side of the family, and then Saturday night we had a group over to my mom's house for some fun. Another highlight for the weekend was Uncle Mike. He came over Friday and Sunday to play with the kids. The picture above is of Abby and Kyle Finn, Madison and Jackson Irwin, and our boys sledding down Grammie's hill. It's not a huge hill but just the right size for plenty of fun.

Little Hoopster

Kyle has gotten into basketball too. He has his games on Mondays. Yes, that's true, the kids practice for a half hour and then they have a little scrimmage. The one picture is of him during the scrimmage and the girl from the white team is on him like glue. He does pretty well for being 3. The one thing I will always remember was the time I came in to pick him up and he was yelling, "I open, I open" during one of the games. Way to cute!!

The Shedd Aquarium

We decided since we have lived in Illinois for a while now we would take advantage of the city. We took the kids to the Shedd Aquarium this past weekend and they loved it. My favorite was the penguins. They were so cute. The kids really liked the dolphins and they are pictured with Rob in front of the Komodo dragon. He was huge!!

Basketball

Kevin started basketball and he seems to really like it. He has tried almost every sport, and I think that basketball will be one he will really like. Chances are he will be quite tall so this might be a good sport for him. It sure is a lot cheaper than hockey!! Check out his form.

Christmas with the Wii

The boys had a great time opening presents on Christmas. Kevin was very excited to get a Wii for Christmas. After opening it, I think it was more of a family gift than just for the kids. Grammie got into playing it too.
